Primary duties of the research specialist include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assisting in research projects under the guidance of the senior mineral processing engineer.
- Performing all the specialized analytical, mineral characterization, and mineralogical evaluation of samples for engineers.
- Performing job duties with minimum supervision.
- Determining techniques for separating minerals from gangue, conducts batch flotation tests, and participating in pilot plant operations whenever necessary.
Other Work/Responsibilities:
- Monitoring and regulation of pH and reagent dosages (plant scale and bench-scale)
- Diamond slab saw, drill press, band saw, and welder operation
- Basic knowledge of installing and maintenance of pipe systems
- Forklift operation
- Maintenance of laboratory supplies, equipment, and facilities
- Effective implementation of software for documentation of processes and results (advanced understanding of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat); (intermediate understanding of AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, AutoSketch, and AggFlow)
- Shipping and logistics coordination/planning for the transport of laboratory samples and bulk mineral samples
