Essential Duties And Responsibilities Include The Following
- Provide art direction to graphic design freelancers and graphic design student intern, and design a full range of print collateral and digital assets
- Supervise creative direction for all print and digital ads, familiarizing oneself with the advertising calendar
- Partner with freelance creative director and executive director of marketing to develop concepts for mass media campaigns, alumni solicitations, and other integrated marketing initiatives
- Serve as art director and lead designer for the bi-annual production of Queens magazine; work closely with SPARK Publications to oversee page design and layout for Class Notes
- Contribute creative content for social media opportunities and admissions emails
- Oversee the university’s professional photography needs, including the capture and maintenance of photographic assets
- Lead efforts for the creation of long- and short-form videos in collaboration with freelance video partners and digital media coordinator
- Hire and supervise the graphic design intern
- Manage the annual budget for professional photography and video needs
- Work with the marketing team and campus clients to develop multi-channel creative solutions
- Enforce the brand identity and visual and messaging standards
- Onboard new graphic design freelancers by reviewing brand guidelines
- Provide exceptional service to clients by meeting given deadlines, proactively communicating
Qualifications
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills Required
- Three to five years of experience in graphic design, with demonstrated strong technique, creativity, and style
- Highly creative with extensive knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite as well as standard office software
- Solid understanding of typography, color, line, composition, and design
- Basic skills in photography, videography and video editing
- Previous experience with Basecamp project management software is a plus
- Ability to quickly establish and maintain strong rapport with students, employees, external vendors and constituents throughout the university
- Exceptionally strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organization and time-management skill – being able to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Self-starter with high attention to detail who can work with minimal supervision
- Ability to thoughtfully present and explain creative ideas to non-designers
- Proven ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely, creative, win-win manner.
- Ability to gather and analyze information and make workable recommendations in a timely manner
- Exceptional follow-up and follow-through skills as well as ability to plan, organize and control projects through to completion
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Availability to occasionally work nights and/or weekends to meet demands of the position

Work Conditions
- Work in an office environment, involving contact with faculty, staff, students, service providers, and vendors.
